A bittersweet mood piece about lonely souls in Manhattan, Living Out Loud also has a strong soundtrack album that combines George Fenton's high quality compositions with ace tracks by Sly Stone, Mel Torme, Brownstone, and Dean Martin. The cuts showcasing Queen Latifah's powerful singing (she plays a struggling jazz vocalist in the movie) are a real surprise.
