Madlib

For this companion disc to Time Out's guide to Los Angeles, Madlib offers a mix that defines "his Los Angeles." Of course, only about half the artists on here are actually from L.A., but the tracks do give us clues to Madlib's aesthetic. His penchant for jazzy, dadaist lunacy is reflected in Sun Ra's "Nuclear War" and Mark Murphy's "Sly," while the Beat Konducta's disavowal of hip-hop formalism is echoed in tracks by experimental rap acts Freestyle Fellowship and the Lightmen Plus One. He also includes songs from his catalog, including the exclusive "Infinity."
