Archie Roach

About

An Aboriginal Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist whose debut album came out in 1992, Roach was part of an assimilation program enforced by the Australian government that took Aboriginal children from their families and had them live with white families. His lyrics bluntly deal with the psychological devastation that this program wrought on him and with the alcoholic haze he subsequently spent years in. He's an exceptionally expressive singer with a clear tenor voice, and his songs have a hint of plaintive country music in them.
