To their credit, the members of the Irish "girl power" group B*Witched can all play musical instruments. Though their lyrics consist primarily of warmed-over pop cliches and their songs are almost entirely premised on no-brainer dance beats, their emphasis on lush atmospheric flourishes makes their songs more interesting and original than, say, those of Mariah Carey or the Spice Girls. Increasingly interested in seasoning their songs with Celtic influences, this very young ensemble may yet mature into a group with a sound and artistic vision all its own.
