The early '90s gave birth to a new kind of electronic babysitter, in the form of a television show featuring a grown man hiding inside a large purple dinosaur costume. To the delight of small children with messy faces and soggy bottoms, Barney sang songs that were easy enough to learn and catchy enough to drive the parents of these small children somewhat irate (perhaps a passive/aggressive karma for parking a child in front of the tube). Barney's slow-tempered singing was similar to that of Disney character Goofy, and by the late '90s his endearing love for all children was upstaged by Michael Jackson's love for all children as well as Great Britain's Teletubbies.
