Rhapsody

Ben Harper's debut, Welcome Cruel World, hints at what future albums would bring to light: a seemingly endless emotional range and a passionate political conviction. Taken as a whole, this low-key, acoustic-guitar based effort falls short, but gems such as "Breakin' Down" and "I'll Rise" confirms Harper's talent, and makes this CD worth owning if you're a fan.
