Bill Frisell

Bill Frisell is a guitarist who doesn't like to sit still. On this double-disc set, Frisell leads a string-laden octet through extended song suites that take in heartland folk, modern jazz and the history of American pop music, from soul and swing to country and rock. Most of the numbers come from two commissioned works ("Mysterio Sympatico" and "Stories From the Heart of the Land"), but Frisell also covers a few chestnuts, including a ravishing and truly moving version of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come."
