The young Quincy Jones leads his dynamic big band on this superior live recording with the legendary Mr. B. This is highlighted by two extended medleys, one of Ellington tunes (the Duke is in the audience) and another of Eckstine's biggest ballads. Eckstine was a fantastic singer, but this live date blows most of his studio sessions away. It also shows how good Quincy Jones was at writing jazz charts for vocalists.
