Black Uhuru

About

Part of the second wave of Reggae in Jamaica, Black Uhuru boast a more polished sound than many of their immediate predecessors, without sacrificing any of the Roots spirit. Heavy Dub reverb bandies about both horns and vocals, occasionally sliced with rock-influenced guitars. The sound is deep and meditative, filled with echoing vocals subtly informed by the dance-friendly vibe of yesteryear. Despite a rotating lineup for much of its lifespan, Uhuru's original, distinctive sound makes the band one of the great Reggae outfits ever.
