Description of Texas Blues

Texas Blues developed in the 1920s, drawing heavily from country, but leaving out the twang. It has a laid-back rhythm known as the Texas shuffle, which swings and lags a little behind the beat. Lyrically, Texas Blues veers away from cryin'-in-my-beer themes. Its accompaniment was traditionally melodic, and more likely to be a single acoustic guitar than an ensemble. However, Texas Blues went electric after World War II, influenced primarily by Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, who played solo electric guitar over a horn section. T-Bone Walker and Stevie Ray Vaughan later carried the torch for the shuffle beat and the relaxed Texas tradition.
