Rhapsody

Western swing sure would sound a lot different had Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys never existed. This stellar selection reflects their heyday, comprising such staples as the jovial "Bubbles in My Beer" and every Texan's favorite, "New San Antonio Rose." The slightly melancholic "Faded Love" is the latest recording here (tracked in 1950), and "Steel Guitar Rag" boasts the band's secret weapon: steel guitar player Leon McAuliffe, who picks and slides with a suave style that actually makes sense when juxtaposed against a saxophone solo.
