Boston Symphony Orchestra

About

Founded in1881 and by its first conductor, George Henschel, the Boston Symphony Orchestra ranks highly among American orchestras, even though its most familiar contribution is related off-season entity, the Boston Pops. Its first recordings were made with Karl Muck in 1917 and under conductor Serge Koussevitzky, who led the orchestra between 1924-'49. Under Koussevitzky, the Orchestra took over the Tanglewood Musical Festival and thus founded an internationally revered school for young musicians.
