Bury Your Dead

About

Bury Your Dead began as a side project in 2001 for guitarist Slim B and drummer Mark Castillo, who were both playing in a band called Hamartia. After some time, the metalcore sound began to lose its enchantment for the two friends, and they began writing songs on their own. Eventually they recruited Rich Casey (bass) and singer Joe Krewko and Bury Your Dead were officially born. The quartet toured and gained a reputation for their bruising live shows, they were signed Eulogy Records and released, You Had Me At Hello in March 2002. The guys borrowed a van and eagerly went on tour to support the release. Once the tour was over, however, the members went their separate ways. But within a year, their paths led back to one another and the band reformed. This time around, they added (singer) Mat Bruso and (guitarist) Eric Ellis to complete their sound. Voracious touring followed, including appearances at the highly regarded Metalfest and Hellfest -- which is where they were approached by Victory Records. The band's debut, Cover Your Tracks was released in late 2004 on the label, and was heralded as one of the most brutal hardcore releases to date. While touring in support of Cover Your Tracks, they kicked around the idea of releasing a live album. So in May 2005, producer Paul Minor recorded the band's show at the Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California, and laid the groundwork for the aptly-titled, Alive. Released just in time for the Ozzfest 2005, Alive gave fans a peek into Bury Your Dead's ferocious, deafening live sound.
