Cabaret Voltaire

Cabaret Voltaire are legendary as industrial disrupters, but by the late '80s their sound had gone from avant-garde post-punk to a more anodyne take on EBM. This collection of rare mixes from the late '80s and early '90s sounds decidedly dated, but like New Order's Technique, it's a fascinating reminder of how deeply Chicago acid house permeated U.K. pop music. Some cuts here serve mostly as historical curiosities, but forgotten mixes from Paul Oakenfold and Francois Kevorkian round out the set, while "Easy Life (Very Strange Mix)" is a proto-techno classic ripe for rediscovery.
