If Love Loss Hope Repeat had a color palette, it would include stone, ecru, heather, maybe a little sepia...you get the idea. These guys aren't playing death metal. Songs like "Comfort," "Texas Stars" and "Block of Wood" point to the band's rootsy origins while venturing the furthest distance yet into adult alternative territory. But it's not all easygoing fare: "The War Was in Color" cloaks disturbing war imagery with a deceptively bland melody and the narrative conceit of a grandfather talking to his grandson.
