CeCe Winans is the uncontested queen of urban gospel. Her best work leans toward CCM, being rhythmically and melodically more straight-laced than her urban gospel and R&B contemporaries. But in any category, she's pure powerhouse. Her presence and vocal abilities fall somewhere between Patti LaBelle and Sandi Patty, which isn't a surprise considering her gospel-royalty bloodline: a spawn of the Winans legacy that includes Mom & Pop Winans, Bebe, Vickie, Marvin, Mario and more. (Not to mention the new generation of grandkids.) Of all the Winans, Cece has the largest global impact, racking up five Grammy Awards, eighteen Doves and several gold and platinum-selling albums. She's also forayed into the mainstream, singing with sister-divas like Whitney Houston, and she's broken out her tireless gospel shoes on talk shows and sitcoms.
