Dishwalla

About

Dishwalla came from the coastside college town of Santa Barbara, Calif. just a couple hour's drive from Los Angeles. The band made a name for themselves playing their noisy Post-Grunge in venues between the two cities, and eventually got noticed by A&M records. Things were looking good for Dishwalla when their eponymous debut was released in 1995, but it came and went without incident. It would take "Counting Blue Cars" from their follow-up album to hit, thanks in part to radio's positive reaction to the single, which, according to Billboard magazine, was Modern Rock radio's most played song in 1996. The band's fuzzy, bottom-heavy Grunge Pop has the guitar crunch and pop hooks that has become a staple of the format. 1998's And You Think You Know What Life's About saw the band stretch their legs a bit, and try new ideas. The album failed to light any fires. Time will tell if Dishwalla will go down in history as yet another one-hit-wonder. But certainly, for a time in the mid 1990's, they were in their zenith.
