Divinyls

About

This Australian band fronted by Christina Amphlett and songwriting partner/lead guitarist Mark McEntee were a chart-topping group in their native country for over ten years before breaking big in the United States at the outset of the '90s. The group specialized in lean, Stones-by-way-of-AC/DC Hard Rock with tough hooks and a slightly sleazy edge that capitalized on Amphlett's sexy rasp of a voice and voluptuous figure. In 1991, the band went multi-platinum on the strength of the song "I Touch Myself," an unbelievably catchy song that also happened to be the most salacious slab of music to hit the airwaves since Donna Summers' "Love To Love You." The group was not able to follow up the hit, and have rarely been heard from since.
