Along with Vision of Disorder and Cave In, central New York's Earth Crisis is one of the foundations of 21st-century metalcore. Proving the division between metal and hardcore had all but evaporated, E.C. jumped from Victory Records to Roadrunner before releasing 1998's Breed the Killers. The outcome is the same, however: titanic riffs, airtight breakdowns, gut-busting grunts and near-indecipherable lyrics extolling a strict moral code based upon social revolution, eco-terrorism and veganism.
