About
Regarded by many as the quintessential white Southern Soul vocalist, Hinton toiled in the shadows as a session musician and songwriter, working on records for folks like Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. His amazing voice got him signed to Capricorn Records in the '70s, where he made a number of highly regarded records, but personality and substance problems continually stood in the way of his career. Hinton died in 1995, but he remains a pivotal figure in the '60s/'70s heyday of Soul music.
