Eddie Palmieri

This is one of two collaborations between Latin jazz pioneers Cal Tjader and Eddie Palmieri released in 1966. Bamboleate is the tougher, more diverse of the two, though Verve's sonically disappointing El Sonido Nuevo at least houses a groovy, mod LP sleeve. All of cooks but "Resemblance" is the clear highlight and shows (once again) how underrated Tjader and Palmieri are as straight-ahead jazz musicians. "Montuno" sounds like a superior Tjader Verve cut, and "Come and Get It" is still danced to by participants in Britain's Northern Soul club movement.
