Enslaved

Sweden's most progressive black metal band manages to outdo itself each time it emerges with new material, and Vertebrae holds true to that tradition. The sonic equivalent of a high fantasy action/adventure video game, Enslaved’s fifth full-length explores an atmospheric, experimental vibe that sees the band moving away from the Viking metal niche, while still running the gamut between black and progressive metal via vocals and strings. The layered tones on opener "Clouds," the momentous title track, and the floating reverie of "Reflection" are great markers for an esteemed reinvention.
