Eric's Trip

About

One of the best-loved Indie acts of the 1990s, Eric's Trip (named after a Sonic Youth song) claim the honor of being the first Canadian act signed to Sub Pop Records. Though you might be hard-pressed to find significant musical innovation on their four full-length releases, the music is consistently pleasant: vocalists Rick White and Julie Doiron-Claytor sing in a disarmingly intimate style. The noisy guitar rhythms and melodies are certainly predictable, but their raw simplicity is comforting. Appropriately, the band's lyrical material dwells on the vulnerable and confusing side of love, remaining self-reflexive without ever becoming overblown or painfully melodramatic.
