Brooklyn is home to two camps when it comes to electro jammers. First, there's the indie stuff, like MGMT. Then there are the freaks: Excepter, for example. Free Blood falls somewhere between the two. Featuring John Pugh, formerly of !!!, the duo drops massive hooks (see "Royal Family"), yet it's wonderfully eccentric, filtering blue-eyed soul, hip-hop and Arthur Russell-inspired disco through a kind of noise-pop sensibility. If you thought NYC ran out of avant party music, guess again.
