G.G. Allin

Unfortunately the folks at Aware One Records chose to use a latter-day photo of the late G.G. Allin for the cover of the reissue of his 1980 debut. Long before he burped bloody, guttural, throat-destroying inflections, the man could actually sing. But back then, his backing band the Jabbers almost demanded no less, as their performances were more tuned into that thin line dividing '70s longhaired punk and the birth of power-pop. That's right -- songs like "Assface" are as catchy as they are funny. "Cheri Love Affair" surprisingly boasts girl-group backing vocals as Allin sings like a young Kim Fowley.
