Goblin

Italian prog outfit Goblin scored director Dario Argento's films, so when he came onboard George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Argento (a founding member of the band) brought Goblin with him. Fleshing out a rock lineup with synthesizers and effects, their music ranges from acid rock ("Zaratozom") to cosmic duels between harpsichord and Moog. The songwriting transcends soundtrack cliches, and the mood isn't even always dark: "Torte in Faccia" flirts with ragtime, and "Tirassegno" is straight-up country. But they shine brightest on the hell-raising "Zombi" and the tribal chants of "Safari."
