Herbert Howells

About

Although the early career of Englishman Herbert Howells (1892-1983) yielded orchestral and chamber music, including a pair of relatively obscure piano concertos, his most celebrated works are his choral pieces and a concert requiem from 1938. Informed by the English tradition of Elgar, Walton and Vaughan Williams, Howells is known for his subtle orchestration.
