Ian and Sylvia

Joan Baez is considered Vanguard's flagship folk artist, but Ian and Sylvia's work for the label from 1962 to '69 cannot be overlooked. As this best-of compilation clearly demonstrates, the duo covered it all: traditional fare, bluegrass, electric jangle and country. It's all great, but that country stuff really stands out nowadays -- which is ironic. A lot of hard-core folkies grumbled that the husband-wife duo had lost its way when working in Nashville in the late '60s. Hogwash! Simply spin "Satisfied Mind."
