Indigo Girls

In spite of the title, there's more that binds than separates this duo. After two decades of playing together, the former school pals think, act and even breathe as a single entity, weaving such a taut tapestry of sound that you'd think they were blood relatives. On their first record for a new label, they tackle the personal and the political, both Bush's wrongheaded approach to terrorism and the emotional terrorism of a disintegrating relationship. But despite the unstable subject manner, there's something reassuring about their warm, engaged voices, homespun philosophies and punkish attitude.
