Adding to the evolving collection of Jay Kay's funk/disco/soul/electronica ensemble, this fourth release starts right out were Traveling Without Moving (1997) left off…and that's a good thing. Striking new chords of electro-soul, these dancefloor and remix favorites, including "Supersonic" and "Canned Heat," will send you to boogie wonderland.

Synkronized, the new Jamiroquai album, won't overwhelm you with surprises. The first
single, "Canned Heat," is a frothy disco retread, complete with a swirling string section, and
"Planet Home" lifts a distorted bass line straight from the P-Funk songbook. Singer Jay Kay's
vocals are not foregrounded as prominently as on the band's platinum Travelling Without

Hoping to prepare for future outbreaks of rhythm pap by discovering what put these London clotheshorses over, I found but two clues: acid jazz and Heatwave. Both of these apply only in Britannia. How the band secured its Grammy I defy Fredric Dannen to determine. (Grade - C-)
