Josephine Baker

About

Jospehine Baker was the walking embodiment of the liberated jazz age. Intelligence mixed with sensuality in her singing, dancing and acting, but due to racial prejudice, this Black American was a superstar in France but unwelcome in her homeland. A stylistic chameleon, Baker was the predecessor of such contemporary artists as David Bowie and Madonna.
