Kid Loco

About

French producer Jean-Yves Prieur grew up playing Punk; his first professional outfit was a Reggae band named Mega Reefer Scratch. He then built his own studio, released an EP and in 1997 revealed the epic double disc "A Grand Love Story," which would be later remixed in 1999 as "A Prelude to a Grand Love Story," featuring rock groups such as St. Etienne and cult favorite Jim O'Rourke. Kid Loco's sensual Hip-Hop-influenced beats, live instrumentation and Ambient guitar work is appealing to both fans of downtempo and Indie Rock. Into the '00s, his style is closer to rock/pop with more vocals (take his 2001 release "Kill Your Darlings" for example), yet he still returns to the blunted instrumental style on a few tracks.
