Kid606's umpteenth record (ok, technically, it's his bazillionth) sticks with the basement-rave template of Pretty Girls Make Raves, going easy on snark and doubling down on dark, sweaty, classic-sounding techno. This time out, a healthy dose of dubstep informs his dirty, wobbly grooves, as basslines writhe like frayed live wires and drum machines threaten to overheat. There are nods to speed garage ("2 Raving Cain"), ragga-jungle ("You Can't Stop a Stepper") and glitchy dub techno ("Bat Manners"). In closing, "Death Is Pain Permanently Leaving the Body" is pure, ambient decompression.
