In the worst classical crossovers, the older musical style acts vampirically on the younger, draining its vitality. The Klazz Brothers narrowly avoid this with their second album of Latin-groove-tinged classical works. Mozart’s lighter side gets lighter on tracks like “Calypso Facile,” which lifts right hand melodies from the maestro’s piano sonatas and left hand chords and phrasing from jazz. When there’s a balance between old and new – when Havana breathes life into the tracks with virtuoso solo runs and saucy flourishes -- it makes for fun listening. When Mozart dominates, get out the stake!
