Ladyhawke draws a lot of comparisons to other hipster club mamas like Peaches, Lady GaGa and M.I.A. But while those comparisons are totally valid, the Australian pop singer is far more beholden to straight-up, MTV-bred new wave and new pop: Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, Men at Work and so on. As a matter of fact, "Paris is Burning" is basically a rewrite of the Gary Numan chestnut "Cars." If you believe striped leg warmers and neon high heels are a viable look, Ladyhawke is the party jam for you.
