Lalo Schifrin

During the late 1960s, Tom Jobim's hit LPs placed his piano-based bossa nova songs into lush orchestral settings that allowed space for trombonist Urbie Green to solo. Here, Lalo Schifrin backs up the superior cool jazz trombonist Bob Brookmeyer with his own (groovier)arrangements and piano work. Jobim's LPs are the ones with the special magic, but Schifrin and Brookmeyer are the better jazz soloists. Here, they transform standards, and Schifrin's specially written title cut, into bossa nova tunes.
