Land Of Talk

About

Singer/guitarist Elizabeth Powell, drummer Bucky Wheaton and bassist Chris McCarron first met at Montreal's Concordia University, where they enjoyed each other's company and musical abilities but never quite managed to form a band together, in part because of McCarron's busy schedule. Powell, who had grown up playing violin before transitioning to bass and then guitar, soon dropped out of Concordia's music program. She played in several bands and even released a solo EP, but didn't find what she wanted to hear until she hooked up with Wheaton again and formed Land of Talk. The group went through three bassists before convincing McCarron to come onboard. And that's when the Talk really started: Thanks to a frenetic tour schedule and the hipster hype machine that is Montreal, the band developed a rather rabid fan base of in-the-know indie rockers well before their first album, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, dropped in 2007.
