Larry Coryell

Between the first and last words of this working-trio album--"Welcome to the death of rock and roll" and "Bliss is all-eternal"--Coryell manages to play a lot of guitar, much of which (unlike the singing) sounds like rock and roll: themes over a steady beat. Even as an improvisor he's more into modal flights and electronic extravaganzas than inventing melodies off the changes. So ignore the rhetoric and face the music. (Grade: B+)
