Mahjongg make art-rock hopped up on synthesizers and Afrobeat. The Chicago-based five-piece is comprised of ringleader/keyboardist Hunter Husar, vocalist/guitarist Jeff Carrillo, drummer Josh Johannpeter, bassist/programmer Michael Degraff and keyboardist/percussionist Daniel Quinlivin. Their debut album, Raydoncong 2005, combines the lo-fi experimentalism of Throbbing Gristle, Bryne/Eno electronic tribalism and punk-funk. For 2008's follow-up, Kontpab, askew computer-rock is underscored by North African-style guitars and staccato rhythms.
