Matchbook Romance formed in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1997, playing tightly-wound emo-punk with the usual focus on inner strife and expressing pain through harmonized choruses and dramatic guitar moves. The band also incorporates a sharp melodicism that pushes their best stuff into punk-pop territory. Shortly after signing with Epitaph, Matchbook Romance scrambled to put together their debut, 2003's Stories And Alibis; that same year, they joined the Vans Warped Tour for the first time.
