Morrissey

Morrissey's popular rebirth ignited with 2004's You Are the Quarry and doesn't seem to be dissipating any, though he's pulled back again from trying to please his less rabid fans. Moz is still missing the expansive musical vision of a Johnny Marr or a Stephen Street, which means the backing tracks are so frequently pitched at "punkabilly guitar squall" that a plaintive ballad like "You Were Good in Your Time" is even more welcome than usual. That said, Moz's singular vocal and lyrical gifts remain as flexible as ever.
