Rhapsody

When Musiq dropped his Soulchild moniker in 2000, he claimed that he had yet to master his craft. So it speaks to his newfound confidence that he's reattached the handle for this, his first album in four years. It swings for the club (lead single "Buddy" and "makeyouhappy") and swoons for the bedroom ("TeachMe" and "Thequestions"). The production, provided in part by Raphael Saadiq, hints at the singer's Philly pedigree (think an updated version of Gambell and Huff's robust, sweet soul) and never overwhelms his subtle, understated vocal work.
