Mute Math

About

Mute Math started as a long-distance relationship in 2001. Founding members Darren King and Paul Meany originally collaborated in the alternative synthetic rock outfit Earthsuit. As Earthsuit was winding down, King started playing with a new sound on the side, sending demos to Meany in New Orleans, who would tweak the tracks and add his own ideas. With the resulting sound coming together just as Earthsuit called it quits, King moved to New Orleans. Guitarist Greg Hill also joined the band, which was then called MATH. The newly renamed Mute Math signed with Warner Music Group in 2004, then completed their lineup with former Earthsuit bassist Roy Mitchell-Cardenas. Disenchanted by the label's decision to distribute their album on its Christian imprint Word, the band sued Warner in 2005, but settled in 2006. After the backwards video for "Typical" earned a Grammy nomination, Mute Math jumped into 2008 working on their sophomore album and touring with Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette.
