Nine months after the release of Neil Young's prickly diatribe on Bush's politics and the Iraq war, there arrives this deconstructed version of Living With War, made up of the original rough mixes done the day of each session. Raw, atonal and more powerful in their nascent stages, these versions showcase the ire and discontent in Young's voice, as it crackles and slides off notes. Rude, naked and visceral, yet strangely melodic and hypnotic, this approach sounds more like a lament than a collection of protest songs.
