New Young Pony Club

About

Boy, does this British new-wave/new-rave/electro-disco band have its ducks in a row for massive stateside success. First, their U.K. hit "Ice Cream" was used in an Intel Core 2 Duo commercial in 2006. Then, they played opening act to none other than Ms. Lily Allen. Then, they earned a spot on NME's Indie Rave tour, along with other white-hot hipster bands like CSS and Klaxons. And there's nothing American audiences like better than a white-hot hipster band with a tie to Lily Allen and a cool technology commercial, right? Oh, and did we mention that all of this happened before New Young Pony Club released their first album? Of course, international (indie-rock) superstardom has been one of the band's goals since vocalist Tahita Bulmer, guitarist Andy Spence, drummer Sarah Jones, keyboardist Lou Hayter and bassist Igor Volk got together in London back in 2004. In 2005, they released 1,000 copies of "Ice Cream," which sold out in three days. Tireless gigging and the fervent support of the blogerati resulted in a deal with Universal/Island and the release of their 2007 debut, Fantastic Playroom.
