For all the harsh, manic beats of Drum 'n' Bass, programmers like Rob Haigh, under the name Omni Trio, create music that doesn't compete with your desire for serenity. He renders floral patterns of beats that are as much Ambient as they are danceable. His warm basslines glow like the summer sun, cooled by gentle breezes of synth lines and samples that carry the pollen of jazz breaks. But his sound is not all organic; his use of angular rhythms and sparkling keyboards is an excursion through a futurist utopia -- a maze of synthetic Sensurround pleasures.
