Paul Chambers

About

Detroit raised Paul Chambers was the prime bassist during the ‘50s and ‘60s. His lyrical expressiveness graced almost every historically noted jazz recording of this time period. Known for his work with the Miles Davis Quintet, he was one of the first featured soloists for the stand-up bass. He did release a few records as a bandleader in the late ‘50s but it is his role as the backbone on such records as Kind of Blue and Giant Steps that assure his immortality.
