How can so much complexity, motion and emotion feel like absolute stillness? Since the late 1980s, Paul Schutze has prolifically created beautiful music that leaves you transfixed, seemingly outside of time. A tension between nearly imperceptible drones and subtle tonal shifts makes twenty minutes feel like a fleeting moment. Heavy electronic resonances fuse with gentle, non-Western percussion and instrumentation that drift by without apparent center or structure. Schutze evokes an unsettling beauty, like being lost in an expansive forest where your sense of awe and wonderment become confused with anxiety and confusion.
