Peter Holsapple

About

As a member of the dB's, Peter Holsapple was part of the band who, as time has proven, would be the sonic link between highly influential Big Star and highly successful R.E.M. The dB's put out two albums of near-perfect jangly pop gems when Chris Stamey, Holsapple's foil in the dB's, quit the band in 1983, leaving Holsapple with all of the songwriting duties. The following album was still shimmering jangly pop, but the added touch of country charm was clearly audible. After a tour opening for R.E.M. in 1988, the dB's called it quits. Holsapple pursued a solo career, and has kept busy over the years, most notably as a touring member of R.E.M. In addition, Holsapple has played on a number of albums from a diverse range of artists (Hootie & the Blowfish, Nanci Griffiths and the Chills, among many) and plays in the country-tinged band, Continental Drifters with wife, Susan Cowsill.
