Phantom Limb is closer to strict death metal than any of this, the insanest band ever's, four previous full length releases. While the songs don't come in 30-second machine gun bursts of wild animal power, the expanded structures allow for what howler J.R. Hayes and sainted grind metal guitarist Scott Hull do best, which is lay down hot licks and scream crazy stuff over them while the rhythm section denies itself air intake. Brutal as all hell and louder than pretty much everything else, Pig Destroyer continues their total dominance of metal culture in the '00s.
